Floppy drive installation

I installed a Starlogic floppy drive and it does not seem like the computer wants to recognize it completely. I click on F drive and it tells me to insert a disc. I do and nothing happens. Not even an indicator light. Did I install something wrong or is Starlogic not compatable with XP?

When you open 'my computer', is there an icon labeled 3½ Floppy [A:]? Floppies are assigned A: and B: only, not F:. When you installed the floppy and restarted, windows should recognize it ( plug and play ) and assigned it as the A: drive.

You may have the cable flipped. Try changing the connector 180 degrees at the floppy device end. I had the problem once and read about it in many forums.  I hope that solves your problem.

There is no A or B showing up in the My Computer area. Any clue as to what is going on. Maybe I got a device that XP will not recognize or there is some secret Dell computer thing I have to do to get this computer to accept and find the floppy drive. Is it possible that my data cable could be bad?

Troy888,

Enter the BIOS (press the appropriate key to enter Setup as your system is booting). When you are there set Diskette drive A:\ to the specifications of your new drive. Once it is listed in the BIOS the system should recognize it on bootup.
