Windows XP will format to FAT32 (it does it for floppy diskettes).  I searched google for info on reformatting and didn't get anything.  What does the users manual say about that?  is there some special software needed to format the device?  Was there any software supplied with the unit?, if so, check that software for a formatting option.  Finally, have you contact the lyra support?

The users manual doesn't say anything about reformatting.

Yes, they supplied a RCA Lyra CD with player, but there isn't any software to reformat.

Yes, I've contacted Lyra support, both online & telephone. I couldn't find any info online, website is weak! They mentioned there is a utility for formatting online, but I could not find it. Spent over an hour looking for it. The tech on the phone told me there must be something wrong with my computer since XP wouldn't let me format it. (I tried my other PC, it wouldn't format either)

When I click on my computer, the drive letter, then format, the format window opens, I click start, but nothing happens. I'm assuming because the player's hard disk is 40GB, this is causing the problem. Can WinXp handle FAT32 drive >32GB?

Thanks.

Windows XP will handle drivers larger thatn 32GB with FAT32.  When I first upgraded an older PC from Windows ME to XP it still had FAT32 and it was a 40GB hard drive.  I later converted it to NTFS.

Since two PC's work the same way, it would appear to be an issue with the unit rather than the PC's.  I wonder about the USB I/O.  Is this unit a 2.0 USB? and are you using 2.0 ports or 1.1 ports?  The 2.0 devices are supposed to be backward compatible and just run at the slower 1.1 port speed but sometimes that "ain't" so.

I'm using USB 2.0 on one PC and USB 1.0 on the other.
