GTX 970 unstable with 32GB RAM, BIOS Problem?
Everything was fine until I upgraded my RAM to 32GB from 16GB, initially I thought it was a faulty RAM but after performing a test with Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and Memtest86, both software came back with no faulty RAM report.
After searching the internet for answers, I found this forum - forums.geforce.com/.../
Test I've conducted:
- 32GB (4x8GB Kingston dual channel) RAM runs with no problem or error for hours when I swapped my GTX970 for a GTX745.
- 16GB (2x8GB Kingston dual channel) runs with no problem on GTX970, I swapped the RAM twice to make sure it is not because of a faulty RAM.
- 16GB (2x8GB Kingston and 4x4GB Samsung dual channel) runs with no problem on GTX745
- Windows Freezes and hanged after 10+ minutes when I have 32GB (4x8Gb Kingston) and GTX970 running.
- Not overheating because I have a table fan blowing at my CPU
- Not RAM slot issue because my old 4GB RAM works fine
I've concluded that my Asus GTX970 is not compatible with 32GB RAM, my windows will freeze and restart, I believe this is a driver issue. I hope Nvidia can look into it. Maybe an Asus card thing?
- Asus STRIX GTX970 DC2OC 4GD5
- Dell XPS 8700
- Windows 10 Home 64 bit
- Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3 1600MHz (4x8GB)
- GTX970+32GB RAM on Memtest86 = Fail
- GTX970+32GB on Windows Memory Diagnosis tool = Fail
- GTX970+16GB RAM on Memtest86 = Pass
- GTX970+16GB on Windows Memory Diagnosis tool = Pass
- GTX745+32GB RAM on Memtest86 = Pass
- GTX745+32GB on Windows Memory Diagnosis tool = Pass
- Am not using Fastboot
- I've tried on Legacy Bios, disabled Secure Boot, and switched off UEFI in Bios.
- All BIOS are up to date.

I ran across a post that said using 32 gb ram with the 970 requires DDRêL modules. Do a web search. May posts sow problems with the 970.
