GX110 Front Panel Connector Pinouts & Chassis Intrusion
Is there any way of getting the connector pinouts for the GX110 Motherboard (why isn't this kind of thing in Dell's system docs anyway?!?)
I'm looking for the front control panel connector pinouts for the GX110 Midsize Desktop.
A shortcut to an answer for me would be an answer to this question instead:
I have a GX1 front panel. It is almost the same as a GX110 except that the GX110 has the chassis intrusion connector there instead of the GX1's speaker connector, so my question is this: Are the speaker pins used on the GX1 control panel cable simply reused, so to speak, for the chassis intrusion connector on the GX110? You see what I'm getting at? There are only so many wires on the control panel cable, and it looks like Dell simply reassigned the two-pin functionality on the GX110 to the chassis intrusion switch, so I want to wire the GX1 chassis intrusion switch that I have to connect to the speaker pins on the GX1 control panel to use on the GX110. (whew!)
Yeah it would be easier if I had the pinouts of everything.

The connector for the switch is on the motherboard for the GX1 (I'm sure that's what you meant) - at least for the one that I have (a Midsize PII Desktop). I only mean to reply that the connector for the switch is on the control panel for the GX110. I was able to figure this out by looking on some supplier web sites that sell this kind of thing.
I have a GX110 Mini-Tower I'm going to pull and take a look at the control panel. I already pic'd the GX1 control panel and can get the pinouts from the lands on the pcb. I'll do the same for the GX110 after I pull it. The GX1 panel clearly shows the lands, and its front side has screening that label the "speaker" connector as "SPKR" (although not visible in my converted-to-GIF PIC). That doesn't mean that any GX1 was ever supplied with a speaker connection for it - you know how these things happen - but the pins for it go to pins 9,10 on the control panel cable to the motherboard. So that's the only unknown - whether these same pins are used on a GX110 control panel - which I'll discover (hopefully) when I pull the GX110.
Peter, you're absolutely right of course (about simply disabling the thing ! ).
I posted the GX1 pics already at http://www.geocities.com/bzag0/ and I'll post the GX110 pics within a couple of days if I get more info when I pull it.
[ NEW - I finally opened an LP GX110 and it shows the lands are different, although a couple of simple mods are possible to make the GX1 panel work like the GX110. I have all the pics posted at the geocities link above. ]
[ NEW2 - My first upgrade GX110 in a GX1 Midsize went great, control panel mods, 1GHz SL52R BIOS A09 and all ! ]

Low Profile GX1 and GX110 have the intrusion switch attached to the front panel.
As far as I can tell the GX1 and GX110 are the same as far as casing and intrusion switches. Turns out the Tower also does the intrusion on the front for the GX110 Tower PWB 17633 control panel board.
Dell Control Panel Board - 8505D
Model Number is MMP for GXa, GX1, GX110 tower so they are compatable and interchangeable as far as that goes. The RISER board is not however.

The part with Speaker and not Intrusion on it is due to the Precision 400 series having a speaker in the front.
