That's a good question. Theoretically, the 865 chipset that the GX270 uses DOES support it, but I'm not sure if the BIOS wouldn't or if there'd be something else in the way.

I am also trying to upgrade the CPU on my Optiplex GX 270, currently I have a 2.4Mhz processor.

I read a different message on this forum (link below) that states only the latest ones can operate the 3.4 Mhz cpu. So I wonder how can I tell if my machine is from the late or old GX 270s? any idea?

I also would like to ask what version of BIOS do you have on your machine? I have version 02, do I need to update my bios?

My last question is can I use the same heat sink and fan that came with the 2.4 prcoessor, and do I need to upgrade my power supply because I alread added a second hard disk (SATA II, 320 GB) and an additional PCI graphics card to operate multiple monitors, so I assume my power supply is already loaded, if the new cpu consumes more power than the current one, and the fan needs to be replaced with one that needs more power, will this be a problem?

I have a mini tower which comes with a 250 watt power supply. I am asking this question about the power supply as part of this message because I am also planning to add 1 or 2 GB of RAM, so I am wondering if I can still do.

Any advice is really appreciated
