GX520 sff problem
just assembled my 2nd gx520 from pieces -- bought a partial, added memory (1gb), hard drive(80gb),added a small floppy and a dvd ---- updated winxp with sp3 and updated others from Dell list --- worked great-- except could not recognize DVD - not in "my computer" or device manager ---- found several fixes in the forums --- followed them , removed upper and lower filters --- now unit boots to desktop with no problem, but mouse and keyboard don't work ---HELP

No -- same thing --- I tried all of the F8 options with no change -- without a dvd or mouse, I have no more ideas to try except a new motherboard

Hi Pabasset,
What happens if you boot to safe mode? Do the mouse and keyboard work then?

Check the BIOS. There are options to enable/disable USB in the onboard devices menu.
Alternately, you could reset the CMOS to start from scratch.

put jumper back in open position on PSWD --- rebooted - wired USB mouse still does not work -- was able to callup task manager, so keyboard is responding

Found a setting for load defaults at F2 - maintenance - changed setting to on -- then system says hit enter again and setting goes back to off

just noticed that fat fingers struck again -- computer is actually a GX520 --- i think there are only 2 options -- a new motherboard ----- or a DVD that can be recognized so I could reinstall win xp

Yes, I think you said GX520 in your original message. Anyway, that's what I thought it was.
Both the mouse and keyboard should work even without the OS. Did you try other ports?

Sounds like you've tried what I would try. Not quite sure what to suggest. You could try booting to a Linux OS to see if the mouse issue is restricted to Windows.

put the problem hard drive in my working full size GX520, did a fresh install of win-xp and it doesn't work -- no errors, just doesn't work right -- really weird

So you are not able to boot from that drive? I'm pretty sure the GX520 can boot from a flash drive, so you might try that for loading the OS. I think the SCB5265 is a slim drive. Not terribly expensive and very easy to find.
(There, fixed your subject. If nothing else :emotion-6:)
