GeForce 6200 and power supply?

I have a PCI GeForce FX5500 and want to upgrade to the best i can. Which is the 6200 but I only have 250w power supply but the graphics card takes 300w. What do I do or will it still work?

i would recomend you upgrade your power supply unit to 300 Watts. By using a 250 power supply, and that the card needs 300w of power, you are putting a strain on the card, the power supply, and the whole entire pc. You are also putting all of those in danger of being blown. Just take the safe side and upgrade! Better safe than sorry!:smileywink:

the 6200 doesn't need 300 watts of power

people in this forum run 6600gts and 6800's with a 250watt psu so a 6200 works fine

If it dont need it then why does it say it requires 300w?

i've seen it happen before. A friend had an hp pavilion,  he put a video card in that required a 350watt power supply, he had a 200 watt. It blew the power supply, motherboard and processor. He threw out the machine, and went with dell.:smileyhappy: besides the point is that dont strain the power supply. :smileywink: I leave the decision up to you.

damian06913 ... You have posted this same question on a number of boards now.  One board is enough to post on.  We all know how to surf this forum.  Your question has already been answered a number of times.  Your power supply will work with the stock p/s you have.  It has been demostrated over the years on this forum by many members with your system, and that card.

Upgrade board is for upgrades to your system, such as power supply, hard drives, etc

Video board is for the video cards

Monitor board are for the monitors

And so on for all the boards listed.

damian, you don't need to post numerous times on different boards.  This is called spamming, and violation of the terms of service.  One board is enough for the same subject.  You have been answered now a number of times.  You will be fine.....  Now, go get the card and install it

Aww come on ravik. Don't be a n00b. HP puts low quality PSU's in there computers and they don't have that odd rating system like dell does.

A PSU cannot blow up your computer in flames if it is over-stressed. The worst that happens is that your computer will not boot up.
