GeForce XF 5700LE on Optiplex 160L
A friend of mine ordered a new video card for his computer (see subject line), but I cannot get it to work at all. After trying all 3 PCI slots on the computer, trying a various install procedures, disabling and uninstalling the built in intel extreme graphics card (which wont stay uninstalled), we still get the same results. On the opening Dell and windows screens, blue lines lace from top to bottom, then based on one of the procedures done to install drivers for the card, the following happen:
drivers installed in safe mode, integrated card disabled (and of course, BIOS video setting set to auto): opening dell and windows screens are laced, either enters windows with a black and laced screen, or the screen simply goes black (no input)
drivers installed normally, integrated card not disabled: same result
different PCI slots used (all 3): same result
graphics card drivers installed in normal mode, result: computer goes to blue screen of death (with a different shade of blue lines going from top to bottom) saying a page_fault_in_non_paged_area occured the instant the drivers almost get installed.
both cards disabled: windows is in VGA mode, and the monitor can be plugged into the graphics card itself. Howeever, the blue screen of death occurs during the installition of drivers
When both cards are enabled, you cannot change the video options for the GeForce card. Switching to the Geforce card causes the blue screen.
The BIOS is already A05, and there are no AGP slots on the computer.
I've checked the system properties and I'm pretty sure the intel accelerator isn't using any resources when it is disabled, but it may be. I haven't been able to KEEP the intel card uninstalled (it shows up upon restart).
Any suggestions would be great, thank you!
