General Question about Dell Models/Styles/Types

Can someone enlighten me about what the various categories/styles of Dell machines do?

For instance, what features does a Dimension have that is different from an Inspiron?  an XPS?  an Optiplex? I am looking for a new machine but don't know which category of machine I should be looking at.  I currently have a 7 year old Dimension but do they still make Dimensions or are they called something else now?

Does "Dimension" or "XPS" or "Inspiron" designate a model? or a category? or a style?

Thanks..................Zeppy

Hi Zeppy,

XPS desktop would best suit your requirements. All-in-one systems have limited upgrade options which one might wish to do in future.

If you have any further questions feel free to reply.

Hi Zeppy,

Thank you for your continued interest in our systems!

Every model has a specific use, Inspiron systems are for basic usage. XPS systems are home entertainment systems. For gaming, Alienware systems are recommended. Optiplex systems are used mostly for business use. Dimension computers are no longer being manufactured. Inspiron desktops have replaced them.

Your requirements would help us suggest the best system for you.

Well, I mostly use my computer for e-mail and internet surfing.  I maintain a personal web page and a web page for an organization I belong to.  I make videos and burn them to DVD's.  I do not do gaming or watching movies on computer. I do not maintain complicated spreadsheets.  Perhaps an Inspiron or XPS system?

Though not part of my original question, I was also considering an all-in-one computer until the monitor on my present computer started failing and now am questioning if it is a good idea to have a screen and "guts" all in one piece.

Thanks for your thought on the matter....................Zeppy
