Getting an addon Bluetooth for Studio XPS 8100
I ordered internal the Bluetooth Upgrade this way:
For home > Desktops & all in ones
Desktops & all in ones > Parts & Upgrades
Put my service tag in
Select a system - Studio XPS 8100
Customize this upgrade
Wireless Connectivity
Select Dell 2.4 Ghz Wireless Bluetooth (2.1 + EDR)
And this what ships for $39.99: (Part numbers from the packing list N952H, RM948, 4270E & W257N)
The problem is you need more than a bluetooth module
You need a bluetooth assembly!
So, I called customer support & technical support people and was told I needed to order part number W866R, and since my computer did not come with Bluetooth, I needed to pay for the part. Ok, I'm not happy, but I want this to work, so I ordered and paid. What I was shipped was part number RM948. And guess what, it is another Bluetooth Module. So now, I have 2 Bluetooth modules, and no way to connect either one. What do I need to get the right item for my computer? Why didn't Dell ship out the Bluetooth Assembly in the first place.
Thanks, RVE

All,
I think rve0rve figured it out.
This 430-3313 is the 2.4 GHz Wireless 365 Bluetooth card only. They should not be selling it this way. To get everything, call Spare Parts 1-800-357-3355 and order:
TFG4X Bluetooth Card, Screw, Cable, Plastic Bracket, Retention Board Module
I am sending rve0rve TFG4X to verify what is shipped.

The USB external ones are easily accidentily damaged. Walking into them, falling objects, children.
The date on the first order packing list is 2/04/2011. The date on the second is 2/09/2011.
I bought this system as a refurbished unit, and there wasn't a bluetooth upgrade to order at the time (or I didn't see it.)
What I want it the right Bluetooth Assembly to install in my machine. And, obviously I don't need 2 bluetooth modules that I can't use, so refund/exchange them.
Please just get me the right part(s).

Hi RVE
Thank you for using the Dell Community. My apologies for the trouble you have been through.
Desktop systems have bluetooth as optional, and unless ordered with the system they do not go with a bluetooth module.
Let me help make things easier for you. Do you want a bluetooth adapter inside the system or an external one is fine?
Check this out for a USB bluetooth adapter. USB Bluetooth Adapters
USB Bluetooth adapters are easier compared to the one you have purchased they are compatible with any system.
All you need to do is plug it in into one of the USB ports and you are good to go.
Althought if you do want an internal adapter, then you can refund one of the two internal adapter you have.
If you want an USB adapter you refund both and purchase an USB Adapter.
Refund policies depend from region to region if you have just purchased the internal adapters (less than 20days) you can opt for a refund.
Do let me know if you need any further help regarding this matter.

rve0rve,
W866R is just the Bluetooth Retention Module which includes the PCB Board, Cable, Holder, and a Screw. You need the Bluetooth module (RM948 WPAN, Bluetooth Module, DW365, LittleStone) which is housed inside a special bracket mounted behind the front panel.
I will need the following information (Click my username, click Send Message) -
Email Address:
Name:
Shipping Address:
Phone Number:
PC Service Tag number:
Reason: Send RM948
