Graphics Card Compatability with XPS 8700

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to make my 8700 desktop VR ready and need to upgrade the graphics card to do so. I was wondering what VR capable cards would work with my existing system. It looks like the Nvidia GTX 1050 ti would work fine, but the VR hardware recommends the 1060, which needs an 8-pin PCI-E power connector. Does anyone know if the 8700 has this, or maybe a 6-pin connector instead? If not, can anyone recommend a good alternative VR ready graphics card? I'm looking at EVGA products for everything mentioned above.

Thanks!

So the post above is for the adapter cable. The XPS 8700 stock power supply has two six pin PCIe, and that adapter will convert it to a single 8 pin.

From what I've read, GTX 1060 is minimum for VR, and it is also the beefiest card that the stock PSU in an 8700 will run.

You must upgrade to Bios A10 ( Win7/8) or A11 ( Win10 ) for any of the GTX 10x0 cards to work.

I would also read up on the GTX 1060 and if it is enough card for VR. If you need a GTX 1070 or a 1080, you should upgrade the power supply.

good luck!

Let's see of this post gets through the moderation filters. It is a link to the adapter for dual six pin PCIe to single 8 pin PCIe power.
