Gray lines on Monitor
Since March 08 I've had an inermittent problem w/ my monitor on my Dim E520. I can't figure out if it's the monitor or the video from the computer. It's a E207WFP monitor. I'll get gray bars wherever there is something on the screen. Like this text I'm typing, each line will show a gray bar extending across the whole screen. If it's a big block like a picture or large type the gray bar will be that size. Can you follow that?
I haven't been able to narrow down when it happens, like if it gets hot after awhile, etc. Sometimes it is right when I turn it on, other time it happens after it's been on a while.
Well today it was getting very bad and I could hardly read the screen. And once in a while it would blink and be a little better or blink and be worse. Well it got real bad and I lifted the MOUSE and pulled it so the cord wiggled pretty good and it CLEARED up the screen!
What does that suggest? Next time it's bad I'll check out the cables. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Christine

Well it started again so I reached behind the monitor and checked the cables and it cleared up.
Was clear several days and today it started again. As I was starting to reach behind to jiggle the cables I bumped the monitor edge and by adjusting the frame a little it cleared up. So doesn't that suggest it would be the montior? btw it's a E207WFP

Yes that's a good peice of trouble shooting on your part.
You might try replacing the monitor cable first if the problem arises again. Can you test your monitor on a different pc?

I finally called Dell and he had me do several things, the last one being to go into Device Mgr and uninstall the Nvidia GeForce 7300 and restart so it would install again. He said that will fix it (we’ll see, I’m not holding my breath). He said it wasn't my monitor.
How does uninstalling and installing drivers work or help? Wouldn’t it just be putting the same one back on? It sounds like it is the same version but he said it was from a backup location on my computer? Now in the future if I have to do it again, would it then actually install again from the same backup file?

I'm not sure how uninstalling/reinstalling the video driver would do anything at all since you seemed to isolate the problem to a physical connection.
Honestly you if you're going to download and install drivers do so directly from nvidia.
That said if everything is working now then don't try to fix it any further.
Good Luck

So far so good. Actually when I was unplugging everything to try different things w/ Dell, I realized I wasn't using the white DVI but the blue vga one on the Nvidia card so I switched cables. It seems a lot sharper now too. So that should eliminate the vga cable from the equation.
