Hard disk back-up when you can't load Windows XP
Hello;
I have an old DELL Dimension 8200 running Windows XP. When booting up, I am getting the following error message:
DELL's Disk Monitoring System has detected that drive 0 on the primary EIDE controller is operating outside of normal specifications. Back up your data and replace your hard disk.
Strike F1, and I have 5 choices, including Safe Mode and Run Normally, none of which will actually load Windows XP. I do get the Windows XP spashscreen but then it goes back to the above message.
How can I back up files on this harddisk before replacing it? I mainly would like my photos that are on the harddisk. Or, is there another way to load Windows XP and get my files?
Thank you, Richard

If the system does not boot, the best you can do, is remove the IDE hard drive from the 8200 and install in either, a powered, USB IDE enclosure, or use an USB adaptor similar to THIS and attach the hard drive to a USB port of of a working computer and see if you can transfer the files and folders needed.
