Help Please!!!

When I run various programs such as My Computer and Internet Explorer I get a blue screen error message causing my computer to lock up. I would then restart and the problem would not be fixed. I can run programs like AOL and all games but when i try to use my computer or internet explorer it locks up.

The error states: VMM (12) + 00004C3C Error: 0E : 0028 : C0283C3C. Any help please!!! My comp is new Dell 933mhz, 128mb RAM and just bought so it shouldnt lock up. It never did this till like 2 days ago and i didnt download anything that would cause this or install anything. Any help??

Try this: Right click on 'My Computer' then 'Properties', the 'Performance' Tab then the 'Virtual Memory' button. Make sure that either the top box is checkmarked, or, if you set your own settings, that they're correct. VMM, the 'Virtual Memory Manager' works in conjuction with the Win386 file, which is your swap and that's what those entries control. If that doesn't help you might have either a corrupt Win386 file or a corrupt memory manager. If it's a corrupt Swap File (win386) you can boot to 'Pure DOS', CD to the Windows directory then delete the file. It'll be rebuilt fresh the next time you boot. If it's a corrupt memory manager (Vmm32) then I'm lost and someone else is going to have to jump in here.....

You didn't mention what operating system, but for any version of Win98 it's like this:

1. Start > Shutdown > Restart in DOS Mode
2. Look at where you are. It'll either be:

C:\> or
C:\Windows\>

If it C:\> The do a CD Windows
If you already in the windows directory, or after you get into the directory, do a

C:\Windows\> Delete Win386.swp

You'll hear it delete the file then when the prompt comes back type in:

Exit and that will take you back to windows.

Sorry, but I'm not real positive how it works for WindowsME......
