Help Please

Hey there,
I have a Dimension 5150, and a Sony LCD tv which i want to run aswell as my monitor on my system. Is this possible with the standard system i have, or do i need a new/different graphics card. Some pointers on how i configure it would be most helpful to.

Many thanks

Does that 5150 of yours have 2 video out connectors? Look on the back of the PC.

I think you need to research the Model of Sony you have and if it can be connected to a PC or not.

Without knowing the model of Sony you have, this request cannot be answered correctly by anyone.

Yep, with the extended desktop, you can have your Windows desktop on the PC monitor, open a movie to play in Windows and drag the player over to the TV desktop, watch the movie and continue doing whatever you want on the PC monitor.

Lets us know how it works out.

The different one is square with a white center?  That is DVI, all you need is a VGA to DVI gender changer to connect your TV to that PC.

DVI male to VGA female is what you need. This adapter plugs into the DVI port on the video card, then use a VGA cable to connect the TV to the adapter once installed.

The video port you speak of is onboard video (video chip on the motherboard), which is disabled because you have a dual head video card installed, those are the ports at the bottom, use those, not the one at the top.

Once the TV connected to the video card, go to Display properties and set up your extended desktop.

Not sure what you want to use the TV for on that PC.
