Help: Remote Control (RC260) cannot work in Windows 7,Inspiron 2320 All-in-One

Hi, I met the below issue relating remote control

I cannot use the remote control (Dell RC 260) cannot work in either media centre or operation system, navigating volume control or other functions. I can even use the remote control to start my computer, but now the remote control is just like a unnecessary rubbish in hand. for diagnosis, I checked my its battery and the IR receiver driver in device manager, and be sure both are work properly.

I have install below drivers in order

Intel Chipset R305805.exe http://dell.to/IsD6Wy
Intel AMT HECI R305804.exe http://dell.to/IwOaEH
ITE 8519 Embed Controller Infrared Receiver Driver R305776.exe http://dell.to/HsrcvZ

I have no idea who I should do

Please help

Tommy

Hi Tommy,

Did you set up the remote through the Windows Media Center set-up process?

Hi, Osprey

thanks for your reply. Can you please give me any idea how to set up the remote through the Windows Media Center set-up process?

When running the Media center, I can't find where to set up the remote

moreover, it seems that the remote control cannot be used to start or shut down the OS?

thanks

Tommy

Here is the procedure to shut down the PC.

Here is the WMC remote setup procedure. The remote needs to detect the IR detector. If it's not plugged in, it will let you know.

Hi,osprey4

thanks for your reply.

I can't find any page in WMC about 'Set up your remote control'. can you tell me where to find this page?

also I am not sure if the IR detector is not plugged in, as I don't have any warning message in Device Manager. The only thing i can see in the manager is that ITE 8519 Embed Controller Infrared Receiver driver was installed properly

By the way, is there any possibility that the IR receiver was disabled in bios as the motherboard of my computer was replaced?

can I enable the IR receiver in BIOS?

Tommy,

The first time you go to watch TV on WMC, you should be prompted to set up the remote.

Let me also mention that while I have a Windows 7 desktop with WMC and a TV tuner with the remote, I never use the remote. My STB has its own remote that's easier to use.

I have a 2320 with the same remote and had problems with it.  There are no instructions other than inserting the battery and what the buttons are for.  Dell tech support was useless; sent a new R260 even though I knew and told them it was not a hardware problem and I am using the original R260 with the new one as a spare.  I went into Programs and Features (not from Device Manager) in Control Manager  and deleted (uninstalled) ITE Infrared Transceiver, then restarted,  and then installed  ITE 8519 Embed Controller Infrared Receiver Driver R305776.exe.  I clicked R30577.exe and let it install. Then restarted.  Leave the other two drivers installed. This worked for me.

Why was the motherboard replaced?  The current BIOS is A10.

Hi, 6339

I tried your way but nothing changes. remote still not working.

the technician replace the motherboard coz the my LCD screen sometimes has the fussy line and has the convert problem. so he replaced the motherboard but cannot fix the LCD problem, and the remote problem raises as well. I even have to update the BIOS to A10 by myself

bad quality of DELL desktop as well as its tech support.

thanks for your reply. can you please share a link to download R30577.exe. I can't find where it is.

what do you mean 'leave the other two driver installed'?

Sorry it didn't work.  Check that ITECIR Infrared Receiver (EC2), Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver and Microsoft Input Configuration Device are installed under Human Interface Devices in Device Manager in Control Panel.

Leave these two drives installed

R305804

R305805

The drive to delete and reinstall is R305776, not R30577, at  http://dell.to/HsrcvZ..  It appears you have downloaded it already.

I have had a lot of problems with "Dell Tech Support" myself.  It seems the only things they advise is to reinstall windows and/or revert to factory settings which are basically the same and/or to send a tech out with parts that do not need to be replaced  and/or with the wrong parts or defective replacement parts. The onsite tech is a robot with the only job is to replace the parts that are sent whether the parts are needed or even fix the problem. They do not troubleshoot at all.  In fact when they run into problems they call the same call center in India that the customer calls and talk to the same untrained "technicians" the customer talks to.   My experience is more problems result from an onsite visit.  I have been a Dell customer for almost twenty years and tech support has become the bottom of the barrel since it was outsourced to India and other countries.  Tech support was the best when it was US based.  Of course that is when Dell in Round Rock cared about consumer customers not just business customers as Dell presently does.

Hi, 6339

No even have any improvement to my infrared receiver, despite that I tried any methods, including delete and reinstall R305776.

I suspect if this is problem resulting from the motherboard replacement, or if the receiver was not plugged in. but how come the driver or device shows working probably in the device manager?

you got the point that 'more problems result from an onsite visit; that's what I experience in the past weeks. and Dell tech support or customer service are even less patient and experienced to deal with my case.

this Wednesday the onsite tech would be coming for the third time. just finger cross they won't make my computer even worst

Good luck with onsite tech.  Since anything is possible with the onsite third party Dell techs, perhaps the infrared board was not connected correctly when the motherboard was replaced.

yes, finger cross. Yesterday I again received replacement parts from Dell to onsite tech. another motherboard, and LCD converter, A/V board were delivered to me
