Hi kclifton,

It can be annoying when you receive an error message while trying to restore the system to factory defaults. Please follow the steps provided in the link below, to restore the system with Windows 8 to factory defaults:

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thanks for the reply, it worked my computer is back to factory default, however, I am still getting the "unexpected_kernal_mode_trap" error and my computer restarts. So I have replaced the ram and reformatted my pc and updated the drivers and it's still happening every 10 min or so. Im getting close to sending this back to dell as I haven't been able to really use my pc.

Hi kclifton,

Thank you for your reply and apologize for the inconvenience caused. I suggest you to load the BIOS defaults and check if it fixes the issue. Please follow the steps provided below to load the defaults:

1. Restart the computer and start tapping the F2 at the Dell logo.
2. On the BIOS screen, press F9 to load Defaults.
3. Press F10 to Save and Exit.

Please let me know about your findings.

Now it won't even go to the desktop, after the dell logo, the same error pops up for two seconds then it takes me to automatic repair where I have to either refresh or reset my pc. And I've done that already and it didlnt work either.

And both the refresh and reset my pc options are not working either. They are saying the drive where windows is is locked and for reset it's saying a required drive partition is missing. And to correct my last comment it is not the same error, but I can't tell you what it is because it flashes too fast
