Thanks for the tips Ron.

The problem turned out to be bad drivers from AMD. I retreated to an earlier Catalyst 11.5 set and everything is now OK.

Open the Mouse control panel and look for options to adjust how it scrolls when using the scroll wheel. Maybe it's set to scroll too many lines at a time so it  'jumps'..??

Did you get a resources CD (or other CD) from Dell with mouse drivers when you purhchased the system?

Did you try searching for drivers using your Service Tag number (don't post it here!)

EDIT: I use a Logitech mouse (though not from Dell) with XP. When I open the Mouse control panel, there's a Wheel tab which can be set to a number of lines per scroll or to whole screen. So play around there.
