The PCI slot will be OK, or even the 1x pci-express slot that you have can accept a 1x pci-express slot video card if you wish to locate one, but since that slot is smaller, do not use the PCI slot card in that smaller slot.  Download a more current driver for the new video card is you wish to more current than the driver that will come with the video card package.

FX 5500 card is most suitable for your needs, its less expensive than the others, that would not give you much more, and are more expensive.  The X1550 is just a souped up X1300 card, and too expensive in many of our opinions for what you get in performance.  Sorry to say, the system you have is just a nice basic computer, not meant for good gaming.

Good luck

Folks,
After seeing the comments on this forum about the Nvidia GeForce 5500 PCI video card I have purchased one. I CANNOT get the thing to work despite following the instructions posted above to the letter. The BIOS is already defaulted to AUTO when I go and check it by pressing F2. Incidentally I have the Dimension 3000 computer.
Please could you run through an idiot's guide to get this working please. (step by step) The closest I have been is getting the video card recognised by the device manager, however when I disable the Intel onboard graphics I get no display from the new card. I don't suspect the card to be faulty, I purchased it brand new and have taken all the appropriate cautions with it regarding handling.
I did get a message at one stage stating that my system had recovered from a serious error and it did keep trying to shut down and restart by itself. I believe this to be some conflict with the graphics controllers.
I am prepared to go back to 'square one' and start again with this as I have already spent 6 hours trying to get the card to work in my Dell to no avail......PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Hi SR45, Thanks once again for your help,I tried every where in Astralia to get the FX 5500 PCI card or the Radeon X1300 512 MB  PCIe x1 after reading all the reviews on Newegg.com but no luck at all,in fact, most dealers did`nt know they existed. So tried Newegg.com but they do not export overseas,so it looks like I will miss out on the X1300 PCIe x1 .I can get the FX 5200 265mb PCI card,so I will most likely buy it, as it, also had very good reviews on the newegg site.So cheers from down under ,keep up the good work, thanks again ,  Regards  DJG

How do I revert back to the default graphics card if the new card I try to install doesn't work?

Does the system do it automatically, or, is this an F2 setup change I need to make after I remove the card from the computer and restart?

My concern is how disabling the default card in Windows before we shut down and install the new card affects restoring that original hardware.

thanks

Alan

Sorry to jump in to this point as I am doing it for the first time.I purchased Dim E 520 .My configuration was to have a Graphic card 256 MB , NVIDIA GeForce 7300LE . But DELL supplied me with a Graphic card of 128 MB ,NVIDIA Ge Force 7300LE, arguing that rhe rest of the memory is Turbo Cashe.
Is it fare for them to do this? I will appreciate any impartial comment on this
