Help with opening driver files downloaded ?

Well i am helping my friend re-store her dimension 2400

I downloaded the driver files that came with her computer...   14 of them...   from the dell download page

and I need to know how to open these files...?

they seem to have an extention  with .application     not zipped...  not .exe ?

so when you follow the install instructions it says to double click the file that I downloaded...   i do and the box pops open asking

what program do i want to use to open the application file?

this is the first time i have tried to fix a dell....  i have stayed away from them since i used to work there as a temp for 7 mths 2001

in the software burn department... burning software into the new computers as they came off the line...

since then they have changed there process for installing software..... they installed the software on the hard drive before the computer was built.

this way they could speed up the build time...

the record in jan 2002 for computers built by one individual was 33 in one hour.....  makes you wonder....  how many of those failed?

anyways if anyone knows the answer for my problem... i would appreciate a quick answer because i need to get this computer back to her reall soon !!

'thanks for the help!!!!!!!

kheaslett,

Right click the file and extract it. It will extract to a folder and should run. If not, go into that folder and double-click setup.

What procedure did you follow to perform the download?  Each must be downloaded one at a time, and when you do that, you will see that each is of the form "Rxxxxx.EXE".  When you have that file you should easily be able to follow Chris M's direction.  When you double click on the file name, the file should automatically unzip and copy the unzipped files to C:\Dell\Drivers\Rxxxx.  Once that is accomplished you should be presented with a dialog box asking if you want to install the file.  Click the "Open" button if one is presented and the auto installer should come up and install the drivers.  The drivers for the Dimension 2400 should be installed beginning with the Intel Chipset Driver as some of the others will not properly install if that one is not present.  You have some latitude with the remaining drivers, but due to the resources they require, Dell suggests you follow the chipset driver with the drivers for the video adapter, network interface adapter (the onboard Ethernet port), sound adapter, and modem (if you have one).  Anything else is your choice.
