How can I identify which processor I Have, P4 or Pentium D?
Just recieved a new E510 today, it is supposed to be a Pentium D 820, but the sticker on the front of the CPU says 'P4 HT Inside" instead of Pentium D. Packing list says it's a Pentium D. Anyone know how to ID which one it actually has BEFORE hooking up and running the computer? Thanks!

I probably will end up doing just that, but thought I'd try first on the forum and send an email to Dell before I did that.
I figure once I turn it on, Dell will consider it 'used', and want to send out a technician (if it indeed has the wrong processor).
If they can't ID it visually, or if it is a P4, I was hoping, perhaps, by not powering it at all they would maybe build and send a new one and have me ship this one back in that box, like they do for any other component I've had to replace in the past. (Once had to send a new monitor back, but that way back in the day when you could call and speak with someone who spoke the language.)
You would think that Dell's testing procedure would have caught this, wouldn't you?
It seems more likely to me that the sticker is wrong, because of the large heat sink, which my two other P4HT's don't have. But it also seems one should be able to visually ID the thing without too much trouble (or disassembly), but I haven't found anything definitive on Dell or Intel sites.
The motherboard is a Dell "Connolly" model. The I/O chipset is sSpec number is SL8FY, which is apparently the newest version (April 2006) but the processor is covered by a large heatsink, so it's impossible to see anything on it. From my limited searching so far, it seems that the components I can see could be used on P4 and/or PD.
Thanks!
