How fast does an XPS 8500 boot?
How fast does an XPS 8500 boot?
Please state whether you have an SSD and, if so, is it the 32GB one used for caching or the 256GB one with the OS on it?
I'm trying to decide which model to buy.

Hi jupitermoon,
The XPS 8500 is shipped with optional mSATA HDD. Dell ships with both 32 GB and 256 GB mSATA HDD. It depends on which one you order at the time of purchase of the system.
The 32 GB mSATA HDD, as you have mentioned it is used for caching, 256 GB has Operating system installed on it. However 256 GB mSATA HDD has better performance and boots much faster comparing to 32 GB drive.

Yes, I know all that, Sujatha. I'm looking for specific boot times from owners for the various configurations with and without SSD. That will help me make my decision. But thank you for posting.

Anyone??
I'm looking for cold boot times for an XPS 8500:
1. With only a hard drive installed
2. With a hard drive and Dell's 32GB SSD drive used as a cache
3. With a hard drive and Dell's 256GB SSD drive with the OS on it

To answer question 3. My XPS 8500 takes16 seconds from being off get to the Metro screen. I have the os mounted with secure efi boot on a Crucial msata 256gb drive. I had to re-install Windows 8 from a usb pen drive as I had added the msata drive myself.

I have a 2TB Hard Disk with 32GB Cache SSD to the Metro screen is about 15 seconds.
From standby / hibernation about 2 seconds.
