IEEE 1394 Firewire question

Question

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 that has a firewire port. I am planning on buying a camcorder and will be transfering video to the computer via this port. I have not used this port and will have to buy a cable. How do I know if this is a 6-pin or 4-pin? I looked at it, but couldn't really tell. Thanks. Janet in NJ

The six pin plug is about 1/2' long with one end pointed. The four pin has a small dip in one long side and is about 3/8' long Charles
