IEEE 1394 question
I have a new Dimension 8300 computer that I bought with a firewire installed by Dell. When I look @ the back of the machine I see 2 ports that both apear to be "6 pin", so I need to buy a 4 pin / 6 pin connector to get this to hook up to my Sony digital camcorder -- fair enough. When I look to buy this connector on line I keep reading that firewire ports are normally "9 pin" and that the 6 pin port is something that is used on Apple computers.
Do my eyes fail me or is my Dell IEEE 1394 port a 6 pin port?
Thanks & Regards, Vincent

Thanks for your help.
I'm pretty sure they are the firewire ports as the are on a metal panel that says IEEE 1394. My sounds card is "Creative Labs 5.1 Audigy2 Audio Card". At least this is what it says on my manifest so I assume that this is what Dell installed. I also purchased the computer with "IEEE 1394 Adapter (3 port)" although I only see two ports which appear to be 6 pin ports. I don't think there is anything else back there that looks like a 4, 6 or 9 pin IEEE 1394 port (but there is a lot of stuff back there!).
Do you expect me to see something different?

If theya re labled as IEEE 1394, they must be. I didn't know there was more than one connector (but what do I know...._).
You may want to call Dell support on this.

I am looking to purchase an IEEE Port for my 8300, is there a specific one that I need to get, I saw on ebay, they r very cheap, there were a few that was like 12 bucks, or should I look for something a little more expensive that would not actually cause me any problems
