Insp 530/Intel G33/G31 Dual Monitors

HI,

After have a chat with Dell tech support I was told all I needed to do dual monitors on my system was

a Y-Cable. This would allow me different images on the two screens. I ordered and received a Y cable. I

get image on both monitors, but they are the same image. The video card doesn't recognize the second monitor is

present.

Can I do the dual monitors or am I stuck with the same image on both?

Any help is appreciated

Allan

Asendo,

I think the helpdesk was confused by the setup diagram supplied with the Inspiron 530. It show a Y cable connected to an OPTIONAL graphics cards. Moreover the graphics card has a DMS-59 connector on it, which is a "two DVI in one" connector. Card with this connector are very rare.

So if you are using the motherboard graphics, you will need to buy a graphics card for your system. Almost all graphics cards have two connectors now-a-days.

Thanks for your reply,

As I understand you did have to buy a new graphic card for your system in order to get 2 images?

Correct.

I would suggest that you purchase a retail card from a retailer rather than an OEM card from Dell (some of these only come with one connector). As I said, almost all modern cards have dual connectors and support dual, independant display.
