Inspiron 531 Vista Core 2 [amd] *integrated graphics card upgrade*?

hello

was about to look for an internal hard drive to expand this inspiron and have been warned my graphics card is 'old' [2.5 years] and may go belly up in the not too distant future? it is an nVidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 - can i upgrade it / add to it / do anything to improve it before it turns its toes up? or could i even completely replace it with something else?

thanks

Hi Ric, How about an 9500GT HERE or the ATi 4650 HERE. Both these cards will work in your system, as manufactors do over state the power for their cards and dell do understate the power for their PSU's.

Thanks Robin - could this be light at the end of the tunnel? :emotion-1:

refuse to believe that my practically new (and little used) 531 is on the brink of inbuilt-obsolescence but i accept that components may be falling behind in technology and capability? the 9500 mentions nVidia who i am wary of just now, possibly without reason*; ATI Radeon is a term i am familiar with - i know the 531 has a 16-express PCI so i guess i'd just plug in and go - or if there is a card in there, remove it and replace with one of the cards you kindly suggest?

also notice both these cards have fans on them which is going to be a bonus ;)

thanks again

Ric

*have had a lot of 'blue screen' crashes which seem to link back to the current nVidia card, but apparently it is a very basic early version of this particular card and may be struggling to cope with new driver downloads which are pushing it beyond its capability - i doubt very much this card has a fan so heating may also be a consideration?

Hi,

yes - the 16x slot is vacant :)

will the 531 handle this please ~ power-wise?

thanks

ps. the nVidia GeForce 6150 SE nForce 430 is an integrated graphics hardware, which is why the PCI slot is free.
