Inspiron 531 not recognizing new ram.

Hello, I am new to these communities and would like help to fixing this problem.

I just bought 2 of these types of ram:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Kingston+Technology+-+Platinum+Series+1GB+PC5300+DDR2+Desktop+Memory/8224986.p?id=1166840340953&skuId=8224986

The problem is, I just bought one a few days ago and it worked completely perfectly, and I get the two new ram modules in the slots, but my computer fails to recognize the new ram. Here are my specifications:

Inspiron 531

X86-Based pc

AMD Athlon(tm) X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ 2100 Mhz, 2 cores, 2 Logical Processors

Total Virtual Memory 2.12 GB

Available Virtual Memory 1.21GB

Please help.

I'm a little late to answer this so I'm not sure if you've already figured it out. If one module worked and another didn't, there's a good possibility the new one is dead, although it usually prevents the PC from booting up at all. You COULD try an x64 version of Windows but the only thing that really helps is if the PC isn't recognizing over 3.0GB (or 3.5GB for some people) of RAM. Try the new module in another DDR2-capable computer, if it doesnt work there either, then you know the stick is dead, and should send it back for a replacement.

I have purchased the same RAM. I have stuck the ram in as many combinations that I can come up with. I still have the origional ran and am only wanting to increase the ram by one. I cannot get it to register in the operating system or the BIOS. Please Help ASAP.

@JCSJourney-

This thread is over a year old! You should have started a new one of your own, and always include the PC model and version of Windows in your posts.

jcsjourney2010,
It's possible you got a defective module. You could try exchanging it for a replacement or try ordering this instead.
