Inspiron 560 Hard Drive
I have need for a second hard drive for my inspiron 560 built late 2009. I need to know what specs to look for? And are they back wards compatible. I need one speedy enough to stream video to other computers on the network. I am thinking I need a sata 2 or 3? Or maybe either will work? I appreciate any assistance. Thank You :)

There are none and no, SATA lll will run at SATA ll speed.
SATA I, is the first generation SATA interface running at 1.5 Gb/s.
SATA II interface, is a second generation SATA interface running at 3.0 Gb/s.
SATA III interface, is a third generation SATA interface running at 6.0Gb/s. The bandwidth throughput, which is supported by the interface, is up to 600MB/s.
SATA II specifications provide backward compatibility to function on SATA I ports.
SATA III specifications provide backward compatibility to function on SATA I and SATA II ports.
However, the maximum speed of the drive will be slower due to the lower speed limitations of the port.

I just want to be sure it will work before I order it? There are so many different specs nowadays. I have no idea what my computer will accept.

I decided to open it up and look. Should have done that from the beginning lol. It says on the board next to the connectors serial ata II. There are 4 connectors. 2 of which are in use HD and DVD. There are 2 remaining connectors one white and one black.
I am assuming I need a SATA II. SATA III will not work. That answers my main question.I think I will purchase the HD I linked above. But now I am curious. Which of the remaining connectors am I supposed to use? The white one or the black one? And what do the colored connectors mean??

No, SATA drives are backwards compatible, therefore SATA lll drives will work.
You can use either connector.

Is there any disadvantage to using sata III? Is it slower than sata II?
