Inspiron One 2330 - System crash - No bootable device error

Inspiron One 2330 All In One Desktop (7ZSXWS1)  Windows 8.1.1

After installing a Windows update my desktop froze. It was left for 15 minutes but did not recover so I switched off and re-started. The PC will now not boot to Windows.

I have the message 'No bootable device, strike F1 key to retry boot, F2 to run the setup utility'

F2 takes me to the BIOS where the entry for SATA0 is empty.

F12 takes me to Diagnostics where the process stops with the message 'Msg - no hard disk'

Re-boot takes me back to the 'No bootable device' message

Are there any other steps I can take to attempt to access the hard disk drive and recover files?

Many thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

If the hard drive is not listed in BIOS, we need to reseat the hard drive.

Hard drive on this system model is a Factory Replaceableunit(FRU).

It is suppose to be replaced by a professional only.

If you want to reseat it yourself, refer to the manual below:

If the system is in warranty, send me service tag and name listed on the account in a private message so that we can setup a service repair.

Thanks & Regards

Hi

Thanks for the reply - I have removed the power/data cables from the hard disk drive and re-connected but am still getting the same error message on boot-up. The system is in warranty, I will send a private message with details.

Thanks

Mark

Can some explain how to send a personal message? When I select the name there is no option to send a message or an email.

Thanks

Hi Mark,

To help you, I have added you as a friend. Please send me a private message with Service Tag, name listed on the account and a screenshot of the issue. To send a private message click on my DELL-username and then click "Send a Private Message". Provide your service tag and contact information so that I may access your system records.

Thanks & Regards

I have a same problem with my Inspiron One 2330 HDD. I does not show the HDD in SANTA 1 in SET UP, so it could not load at all. Can you add me as a friend so I can send my service tag to you.

Hello:

I have the same issue. Is that the Hard driver is gone bad?   Is there a way to recover the documents that i have saved. I do know how to replace the hard drive because i checked if perhaps the connections were loose. I bought my computer last year, i am not sure if it is within warranty. Is there a way you might be able to check?   I bought my desktop all-in-one at Sams Club.

Thank you,

Besa

You would have to register and then check.

Warranty ended 5/8/2014 Country United Kingdom

EMEA support is not handled by the USA Dell forum.

There are always ways of recovering data but most people are not willing to pay what it costs.

Shuttle Columbia's Hard Drive Data Recovered from Crash Site"- Data recovery specialists at Kroll Ontrack Inc. painstakingly retrieved 99% of the information stored on the charred 400MB hard drive over a two day period after the device was discovered six months after the 2003 shuttle crash.

Hi

As a follow-up to my original post, you will need to try installing your HDD in either another PC or a USB external caddy. If you still receive a message that the HDD is not recognised as being present, I would suggest contacting a recovery specialist if you have important documents that you wish to recover. I personally used Seagate as they were the manufacturers of my HDD and they recovered the entire contents of my HDD for a reasonable price in a matter of days. I've also made sure that I backup my data on a daily basis!

My machine was out or warranty and therefore Dell was not able to replace the drive for free as the drive was not recoverable by "normal" means. I back up my data and didn't need a data recovery specialist. They did direct me to a Dell service department that could help me get a replacement HDD from them. I decided to replace it myself with a non-Dell spec'ed SSD and have had no more problems.

IMHO, I think Dell should have replaced this drive as it seems that after 14 months of service a drive should not die such a horrible death. At least Dell should go after Seagate for not providing a reliable product. I've had less expensive drives last 4x as long without issue.

Good luck to you

Scot

Hey I am experiencing similar issues with my Inspiron one 2330 all in one computer. I need the computer in working order as I have university exams soon. I bought an extended warranty on the computer so how would I go about fixing the computer?
