Pat...I'm not sure that you'll see any advantage in loading DirectX 9.0c because your video card is so old. Remember, a DirectX upgrade is one-way unless you use a special utility to remove it. Drivers for this card are available at the nVidia website in the archives, If it were me, I'd stick strictly with the Detonator Series drivers instead of the Forceware set. I'd also limit my driver choice to 66.93 and below (preferably less), like the 40.xx thru 5x.xx sets. Always make a restore point when making software changes. Oh yeah, nVidia's driver files are actually executables...just downloaded 'em to your Desktop, double-click, and they will self-install.
I would like to upgrade to DirectX 9 because I have bought a DVD authoring software (DVD Authoring Studio) which asks DirectX 9 to work... It's not to improve my video card !
In this way, I don't know if it is necessary to upgrade also the video card driver (before DirectX upgrade ? or after ?)...
Is upgrading DirectX on this old computer may cause bad effects ?
Oops...my bad. I got the impression from your post that you were updating to DX 9.0c to play some of the more recent games with your present card. DirectX can sometimes cause some heck of a problem with games. You get junky display, the game won't start, get error messages and so on. Also, be warned that some hardware doesn't support or conflicts with DirectX.. No, it isn't necessary to update the video drivers when you install an upgrade to Dirext X. However, you should run all the tests in DirectX Diagnostic to make sure everything is working correctly (Display tab > Test DirectDraw & Test Direct3D; Music tab > Test DirectMusic). Enter DirectX Diagnostic by: Start > Run > and enter dxdiag in the box > OK.
You English is very good....I hope that you can understand my English because my French is very bad :) DirectX 9.0c shouldn't cause you any major problems. I've never had a problem with my older Dell computers after I have upgraded my Direct X. I can't say for sure that you won't have any problems. If you do have a problem after the upgrade, it will probably be with games. So, if a game was written for DirectX 8, it should run if you have DirectX 9 installed on your PC. However, a game written specifically for DirectX 9 will generally not run on DirectX 8 or earlier. The website "Major Geeks" has a special program that will remove any version of DirectX so that you can install an earlier version of DirectX, if you need to. Since the new DVD software that you want to use requires DirectX 9 to operate correctly, you don't have much choice.

I will not use any game on this computer.
So, I think I can follow your advise, and upgrade DirectX, even my Dell is old ?
Thanks.
