Installing a second drive (SSD) in Optiplex 755-SFF
Hi,
I searched the forum but couldn't find a conlusive solution to installing a second drive (SSD) in the floppy area of Dell Optiplex 755 SFF.
Would someone be able to suggest a way out?
I've just upgraded to Win10 (64-bit) from WinXP with 4GB RAM and the system is performing well to my liking and use. I now wish to move the Win10 installation to my newly bought 120GB SSD (7.0mm thick) and install my other 1TB HD in place of the stock 80GB HD that I'm running Win10 off of now. I wish to keep the Optical Drive (as kids need it for school work etc), but the floppy can go now.
Since there're power connectors for the MB just under the Floppy Drive bay, any standard 3.5" - 2.5" tray doesn't fit. The only thing that fits well is the floppy drive enclosure. I don't know how to mount the SSD on it.
Regards,
Govi.

Adding a Drive in the optical bay is possible. But you cannot run without the original hard drive on the Desktop SFF and USFF models.
You will get an error about the thermal characteristics of the drive.
SSD on SFF or USFF support have a problem due to thermal design. The hard drive if not recognized will give an error press F1 to continue.
The BIOS errors are;
1. Alert! Rear Fan Failure
2. Alert! Air temperature sensor not detected
3.HDD replacement is not valid, continued use may result in
long term HDD reliability issues, please press f1 if you would
like to continue, and/or call dell for replacement HDD
Strike F1 to continue F2 to run the setup, F5 to run onboard diagnostics
