Intel AMT, vPro, Standard Manageability?

I am wondering about the options on Optiplexes regarding the Intel Systems Management options. On the Optiplex 780 desktop through my premier portal, for example, I'm getting the following options for "Systems Management Mode":

  • No Out-of-Band Systems Management [subtract $11.50]
  • Intel® Standard Manageability [Included in Price]
  • Intel® Core2 vPro Technology Disabled [add $3.83]
  • Intel® Core2 vPro Technology Enabled [add $3.83]

I have a vague understanding about vPro is all about and what it does, but what specifically is actually shipping in the box for each of these choices that is causing a difference in price?  Is Dell adding/subtracting a physical chip from the motherboard?  Is Dell changing BIOS settings, or installing a different BIOS altogether?  Is Dell installing driver(s) in Windows? What am I actually purchasing, or removing?

Further, can these options be upgraded/changed at a later date?  Or again is this a physical chip that is either integrated into the motherboard or is not present?

This forum is pretty much my last resort for getting answers because my sales rep has been basically useless trying to answer these questions.  Thanks.
