Intermittant backlight failure 1703FPt Monitor

After several hours of use the Dell 1703FPt monitor will intermittantly suddenly go dark. The green light on the power button remains on. I am able to get into the computer using Remote Desktop so it is still alive. I tried the monitor on another computer and the monitor was still dark. Even turning the monitor on and off fails to reset the backlight and with the analog video cable disconnected even the initial power-on diagnostics are not visible because the screen is not lit. Turning off the monitor and waiting a few hours seems to fix it. This problem will disappear for weeks on end.

gsdavid,

When this occurs:
* Power the monitor off
* Disconnect the power supply cord from the back of the monitor
* Wait 30 seconds and plug it back in
* Power the monitor on

Chris, appreciate the reply.  Problem didn't happen again until last night.  I turned off power and removed the cord for 30 seconds and then reconnected and the monitor came back on as you suggested.  However, less than 10 minutes later the monitor went dark again.  This time repeated attempts to do the same thing failed.  I hooked up an old monitor to absolutely verify that there was video available.  I left the LCD monitor overnight and this morning it is indeed again working.

Is there something I can do to correct this or do I need a new monitor?
