Internal Modem Options?

Hi

I recently bought an XPS 8500 system to replace my 10 year old  Gen3 XPS.

The added amount of 'built in' components is a little mind boggling!!  I noticed something missing though: an internal  modem.

There were no modems listed as build options when I ordered the system.  So my questions are:

  1. How can I send fax and use my headset/mike for telephone use?

I'm a writer and use speech recognition to dictate.  My headphone/mike combo is on my noggin for most of the day.  I want telephone under computer control so incoming calls will show on-screen, then use the headset for the calls.

Do I need to pull the modem out of one of my older machines or look for a 3rd party modem?  I don't use a cell phone which, I'm guessing could connect via the built-in Bluetooth adapter.
  2. "Dell Audio": is there a specific use for this?  It does not seem to link with my Logitech G35 Surround headset or to my Philips HD TV/monitor.  My video/HDMI connection is with the NVidia GT640 card.
  3. "Realtek Digital": same question as #2.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The XPS 8500 only has PCI-e x1 and PCI-e mincard slots available so you won't be able to install the old modem if it's an outdated PCI card.

You could consider an external USB modem if you don't want to go inside the case to install a PCI-e card.

There's also the internet option where you can submit your doc to a web site that sends out a real fax for you. Some of them are free, but limit the number of pages per fax and faxes per day. Some put their ad on the cover page, some don't. Some charge per fax.

There's even one that will give you a free fax number. Incoming faxes are converted automatically and emailed to you.
