Is Optiplex GX620 internal speaker compatible with Optiplex 990?
I have a bunch of older Optiplex GX620 machines that don't need internal audio so the speakers were removed.
I recently obtained some Optiplex 990 and we didn't get the internal speaker but now it turns out we could use it.
Can I recycle the GX620 internal speaker into the 990?
,
The GX620 speaker plug does fit the 990 socket, though the pinout is different. A GX620 motherboard has a gap on pin 4 while the 990 motherboard socket has a gap on pin 2. The white wire would not be connected with a GX620 speaker plugged into a 990.
I don't have any 990 speakers to know if the power and ground are in different positions, too. The socket pinouts for either a GX620 or 990 internal speaker are not documented anywhere.
I have not tried powering up the 990 with the GX620 speaker plugged in as I do not want to accidentally let the magic smoke out of the motherboard testing this.
,
GX620 INT_SPKR (internal speaker) plug pinout: 1- Red, 2- White, 3- Black, 4- (gap), 5- Green
Unnumbered solder pads on speaker: P5V_IN (5v DC in), SPK DET (Speaker detect?), GND (ground), AUD MONO (mono audio)

Hi Javik,
The technology and the chipset design for both the systems is different, I do not recommend you to interchange the speakers of the systems.
For your reference below is the comparison of the integrated audio for OptiPlex 990 and OptiPlex GX62.
OptiPlex™ 990:
The OptiPlex™ 990 HDA audio implementation uses the HDA 1.0-compliant digital bus from the ICH10DO and the Analog Devices ADI 1984a HDA codec. Below is the platform's audio block diagram.
The Analog Devices codec provides the following:
At the front of the chassis, it provides headphone and mic connections. The chassis and system board also support an optional chassis speaker, EXT_SPKR.
OptiPlex™ GX620:
The AC '97 audio implementation on the OptiPlex™ GX620 system uses the AC '97 2.2-compliant digital bus from the ICH7 and the Analog Devices AD1981B AC '97 codec. The Analog Devices codec provides the following:
At the front of the chassis, it provides headphone and mic connections. The chassis and system board also support an optional chassis speaker, EXT_SPKR. The system board incorporates the connection to support CD-in audio (via the D-Module media bay connector on the USFF chassis only).
Please reply for any help.

What is being asked is the INTERNAL BUSINESS SPEAKER which is more than just a speaker.
Manufacturer Part# : C9021
Dell Part# : 313-3456
Is it compatable with the 990. If not what is the part number for the 990 internal business speaker.
