Is POPUP.EXE a necessary startup program?
Windows XP Pro SP2, Dell precision 690
I'm attempting to eliminate unnecessary programs upon starting windows - Is "C:\Program Files\Dell SAS RAID Storage Manager\MegaPopup\Popup.exe" necessary at startup? Thanks.

I don't believe any of the Dell software is "necessary". I get rid of all of it.

Thanks Peter,
But can someone give a stronger opinion than "I don't believe..."? :smileyindifferent:
Much appreciated.

Removing it will not provide any noticeable improvement in your system.
You could disable it test your system and then enable it if you find you need it.

OXO,
I don't have a test system to try this on and I doubt it takes up too many CPU cycles, so I'll continue to allow it at start-up.
Thanks for replying,

Apologies for the oversize text I copied it from an email to a friend who used to be a dell techie. I was not shouting as the kids would say!!!
You can use windows defender to manage your start up programs or the script from this site which has some good stuff. You get a bit more info about the progs unlike the msconfig route.
