Issues with Inspiron 2350
Hi all,
I'm having some issues with the all-in-one Inspiron 2350.
The computer is really slow. We updated to Windows 10 and that never resolved the issue. I took a look at the task manager and the disk usage is almost always at 100% even though there's only a couple of processes using a small amount of usage. Also the Intel Smart Storage tool is saying there's an issue with the HDD.
I run some Dell diagnostics and nothing is found so I called their support who insist that there is nothing wrong with the HDD and it's because the system is on Windows 10 and I should revert back to 8.1.
I think this is a load or rubbish, but I'm trying to do this just to jump through their hoops. So any time I try to do a factory reset I get a BSOD saying WDF_Violation. So I used the Dell backup and recovery manager to create a USB to boot from and try. When the USB loads I get the same BSOD.
I just tried calling their support again but gave up after 20 minutes of waiting to get through. Can anybody offer any advice?
Thanks

It could still be a HDD problem if Smart Storage is flagging it, especially since it was a problem even before you upgraded to Win 10. So back up your personal files on external media asap, to be safe.
Did you run Dell's extended hard drive tests by rebooting and pressing F12 and then launching the diagnostics from the menu?
Did you install all the Win 10 drivers for this system from Dell's Support page after upgrading to Win 10?
Go to the Intel site and download their Driver Update Utility (v2.4 or later). Let it check your hardware to see if you need an updated Intel chipset driver or updated version of RST.
There are many possible causes for 100% disk usage, including malware and software conflicts. Have you scanned thoroughly for malware recently?
If you use both the Chrome browser and Skype with Win 10, there are reports the combo causes high disk usage and there's a fix posted on the Microsoft forum...
If it's not the HDD itself, you may have to try a number of other proposed fixes posted on the net. Or possibly do a clean reinstall of the OS (be sure to back everything up first!)

Support was correct-- your model is not approved for upgrading to win 10 because of lack of drivers. The 2350 has a laptop-like motherboard and requires Dell customized drivers that are not available for 10. Reinstall windows 8.1 after the hard drive replacement.

Hi there, thanks for your reply.
Yes I have run the extended tests. They flagged nothing.
I believe I did install the drivers, but I'll have to double check.
Computer has been scanned for malware. Not using Skype but I'll try the fix for Chrome.
My main problem is that I can't do a clean reinstall due to BSOD every time I try, even with trying to boot from recover USB. I'd rather avoid buying a new HDD but I'm running out of options and feel aggrieved doing so bearing in mind it's still under warranty.

Ignore the not supported Windows 10 stuff. It is an easy out. However, if your computer is running Windows 10 and has no unknown drivers then it supports Windows 10. We have put Windows 10 on 10 year old HP Pavilions and Optiplexs without issue as long as you can find drivers.
To me it sounds like you are running a service that is using the harddrive. I noticed that with mine too.
When it is doing it do a Ctrl-Shift-Esc to get Task Manager, More Details, Choose Performance Tab and Open Resource Monitor Link at the bottom.
Open DIsk Tab and check to extend. You will see ALL the files using the disk and below you will see the disk activity.
Identify the problem file causing the issue. For me it was I had software that installed a web service that was using up all the disk read.
Google the Process to make sure it is not windows, right click the process and choose end process. If the disk activity stops then you know the cause.
It could be Antivirus, it could be anything starting up in the Run reg key or any service.
