Keyboard Problem

Re: Inspiron 546. O/S Windows & upgraded from Vista. Computer

Consider this a complaint about Tech Service.I have been a customer of Dell for several years and recently, I purchased a new Keyboard KB522 although the packing list has it as RGR5X. Its a Multimedia unit with Hot Keys. Before I go any further let me say that I am not an expert in computers and I rely on the integtity of the Seller to inform me of any wrong tracks that I may take on using my computer or any thing attached to it. After my keyboard arrived, I noticed that there are no manuals, instuctions, or softward so I assumed it's a normal plug-in device.but it does include some new things, to me at least, such as keys that short cut to such things as; mail & calculator and there is a key with a moon shape on it which I have never seen before. Anyhow, I hit it and it shut my computer screen down and no matter what I did, I could not get anything back on. So, I called Tech Service and he asked me for my service tag number and when I gave it to him, he told me that my computer was past warranty. I knew that and told him I wasn't calling about my computer but the new keyboard and he asked me what the problem was. I told him that when I hit that moon key on the board, it basically shut my computer down and after a few trying of things, he told me that something in my computer is corrupted and that it's not the keyboard and he could help me but it would cost me $129 for a service contract and I said absolutely not and hung up. I put my old keyboard back on and proceeded to contact differenet computer forums and with their help, I was able to get my computer operational again. Today,(4/9) I contacted Customer Support to acquire a shipping tag to send the keyboard back, since my packing slip did not include one and during that conversation with a pleasant lady she convinced me to talk to Tech Service again. This time I got a more receptive rep and after telling him my story, he told me that he was going to switch me to an expert of keygboards. This man told me that by touching the key with the moon symbol I would put my computer to "sleep" and to wake it up I shouldl push the power button and hold it in for 30 secs and then realease it and then turn my computer back on. It works! You do get a selection screen that includes safe mode and turn back on normally but you do get the computer back on. NOW WHY DIDN'T THE TECH TELL ME THAT WHEN I CALLED THE FIRST TIME RATHER THAN TRY TO PRESSURE ME INTO A SERVICE CONTRACT???
