Load Win 7 64 bit on a GX520 Desktop?
A system check finds 64 bit technology = yes. Does this mean you can load Windows 7 64 bit OS on to this unit? It is currently running XP Pro 32 bit.

Hi Milfordlefty,
Welcome to the Community.
We do not have drivers for Windows 7 for this system model however, you can refer to the thread mentioned below for some useful information:

You can click the link mentioned below for the drivers:

The basic answer is YES except.
1. You must have a 64 bit CPU otherwise it will not even boot to install.
2. The 620 is a better choice due to it having an X16 video Slot.
3. You can Get a Used Optiplex 620 with Windows 7 for slightly more than just the software alone.
$109 for OEM WIN7 Home and $149 for OEM WIN7 PRO and $199 for OEM WIN7 Ultimate.
Windows 7 will install without issue and recognize EVERYTHING except the Video and Audio.
4. BIOS Update to the LATEST Version is Highly Recommended BEFORE upgrading.
5. Since there is no XP to WIN7 or WIN8 upgrade buying another Hard Drive to install it on is recommeded.
Take out your old drive and keep as a backup. There is no way Back to XP its a one way Trip.
Both the 32 bit and 64 bit version of the Audio Driver is below.
DirectX June 2010 is also Highly Recommended.
Download DirectX Redist (June 2010) from Official Microsoft ...
Download file, Extract to a folder, RUN DXSETUP.EXE as Administrator.
The Analog Devices AD198X codec does have WHQL drivers from the Microsoft Catalog.
microsoft catalog Analog Devices 5.12.1.7010 32 BIT
catalog.update.microsoft.com/.../ScopedViewRedirect.aspx
microsoft catalog Analog Devices 5.12.2.7010 64 BIT
catalog.update.microsoft.com/.../ScopedViewRedirect.aspx
Supported Update IDs
R145551.EXE 32 BIT
R145149.EXE 64 BIT

Thanks, I have access to a Win7 OS, so the cost is not the issue. I have maxed out the RAM to 4gb and running 64 bit might make more use. I recognize the video shortfall, but I don't play games nor stream a lot of video anyway.

Streaming Video will be choppy if it works at all with the onboard INTEL video.
Getting an Inexpensive Radeon HD5450 will fix that part.
Newegg.com - ASUS EAH5450 SILENT/DI/1GD3(LP) Radeon HD ...
Speeds it up in 2 ways.
1. Adds Directx 10 and DirectX 11 and Aero capability.
2. Gives you more ram because the video is not stealing from the system ram.
3. Adds DVI and HDMI.
4. Works in all models Except the USFF which has no slots and therefore is not upgradeable.
Low Profile PCI-Express Video Card -EAH6450 SILENT/DI/1GD3(LP)
Does not have a fan and does not stick up 2X card thick.

Yes, I agree and I am aware of the ability to add a video card. But, I have the DT model that only supports PCI, so the one pictured wouldn't work. I know I can find a used PCI with radeon at 128mb for $20 or so. Thanks for the help. I will probably just load 32bit, but wanted to confirm I had the option for 64 bit.
