The two files you mention are Internet Explorer files, I believe--mine have the date and version number on them related to Internet Explorer 5.01--the version I run. Have you tried to clean install Internet Explorer?
If you are getting Windows system file requests, given that you are running Win 95, you can extract each file needed from your operating system CD; whether the OSR2 update provided updated versions of the needed files, I cannot tell you; you might be mixing apples and oranges to a degree. You can find instructions for manually extracting .cab files here
If you are getting a large number of Windows system file requests, I am thinking that you might be ahead to reformat and clean install than to go through what you are going through. If you should decide to do this, you can find good instructions for the process here, a link provided by Ginny. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader, in order to view that document, and that can be downloaded from here. Other good instructions are found here. Your big priority, if you decide to do this is to prepare adequately: make certain your emergency boot disk supports your CD-ROM, backup data you want to preserve, gather all installation CDs and any Product ID numbers you need, and make certain you know where your device drivers are located. Copy down any network and Dial-up Networking settings you have inserted into these applets, including passwords. If you're prepared, it usually goes smoothly for you, OK?
Thanks for the response. I suspected they were IE files (what a piece of crud!) I normally use netscape.
This problem begam when I tried installung Visual Studio 97. It rquires IE 3.0 (so it said). I already had
IE 5.01 but it loaded 3.01 anyway. Well, leave it to microsoft to blow my weekends and work schedule.
