Logitech z-5500, anyone use? Can a geek fix this?
SO, yesterday I got my 112 pound packaged goodie. Haha, its probably around that heavy!
I spent a few hours installing speakers moving stuff around and making things look nice. All is setup and ready to go.
I go to listen to some sound, and NOTHING!
To the best of my knowledge, everything is hooked up right. I've called logitech twice now for some help and still cant fix it!
They told me to download a hotfix and it still does'nt work!
Does anyone have any experiecne with these speakers and can they give me any insight, I'm really mad right now, spending almost a day trying to get this to work when this thing is brand new...
I have a DELL XPS420 with Windows Vista 32-bit OS.
I do not have a sound card either and have the Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced MB.
I'm wondering if the Logitech has its own sound drivers and its conflicting with mine?
I've checked the sound settings and configured it to 5.1 surround. Any test button I use, the sound is playing because of the level indicator, but there is no sound in the speakers!
:( I'm soo sad, I can't enjoy things right now.

Everything you said, is correct with my computer as well, except I do not have a sound card.
I cannot post on the logitech forum because my email is being used or something, I would have to call and see what is up with that..
Other then that, I'm gonna try and see if my speakers work.

Okay, so I just tested the speakers and sub on my other computer and it WORKS!
I'm so lost right now...
What is the deal? These high-end speakers will work on a Windows 2000, but not a Vista?! AHH!

I have only the ones on the back of the tower, 5 of them and I checked the manual for my PC as to where the cables go. The colors are matching so I know they are right as far as I know. The ones left over are a purple, and blue...
I also have an optical jack.

On the front of my PC there is a headphone jack that does work. The headphone jack to the control center for the z-5500 also works. If I connect the headphones to the green, orange or black, it also works!
Yes, the volume is turned up as well.
I talked to logitech earlier and he had me download a few hotfixes which still did not work. Is there any way I can go to a certain thing on my PC and it will give me all the specs of my Pc so I can post up the info?
He said it had to with the OS not recognizing HD audio.
I'm gonna give Logitech and Dell another call. :smileyindifferent:

I was using an old Altec Lansing speaker system from my old computer until I got this.
Alright, so here is what I've deviated:
-The sound card and drivers or both just cannot handle the sound through the 3.5mm jacks. I was reading in the manual about DTS and DOLBY DIGITAL, yada yada. I thought that maybe since it said I need to have this supported on my sound card it would'nt work unless it supported on my sound card.
I called logitech and explained this to them. The guy was already ahead of me on it and said that it should still work its just you wont have as good sound quality as you would with an optical cable. Under the sound settings in my control panel, the supported formats for the optical cable were DTS and DOLBY DIGITAL, not under the speaker/and headphones.
He said he has encountered this and his reasoning is that the card cant handle the sound.
So, after a 10min. wait on the phone before I got help, it was worthless to find out I still have no solution except to go out and buy an optical cable and hope to god it works!
So, either I can call dell, and try and explain my problem and fight with them to fix my problem, or I can shush up and buy a cable.
I'm done with this today lol, its been so draining to try and figure this out... as you can tell by my ranting...

Okay, so after spending 3 hours on the phone last night and another 2 hours today with dell techs, they have come to last resort and opted to replace my motherboard. IT may or may not solve the problem, they dunno. But its getting pretty extreme!
Other then that, has anyone experienced this problem with integrated sound cards on the motherboard with the sigmatel drivers?

Hey, I Don't how is your sound card, on mine I go to control panel/sound/choice SPDIF,
SO YOU CAN PLAY YOUR SPEAKERS Z5500 LIKE MINEUSING EITHER OPTICAL OR COAXIAL DIGITAL CABLE
