MISIC DOWNLOAD PROBLEMS

I have a Dimension 2400 and have been downloading music from Kazaa. The problem is that of all the downloads made i have only been able to hear one or two of them. Also, a video has been downloaded and although the sound can be heard there is no picture.
I'm fairly new to computers and downloading so any help would be appreciated.

SPBar,

When you download a file, it has an extension, tacked onto the end of it. For instance, a file in the "Windows Media" file format has .asf .asx .wm .wmx .wmp . Video files have .avi, Audio files .wav.

If you click your Microsoft Start|Help and keyword file extensions, you should be able to read details on the subject. The Windows Media Player (WMP) "Help" topics cover the subject very well.

To make this short..., your problem may be that the mediaplayer which you use to play your downloaded files has not been allowed to play the file extensions of the files that you have downloaded. Since this could be the case, your first step is to check your mediaplayer formats against the downloaded file extensions.

So, go to one of your files, right-click the folder icon, select properties, and look to see what the extension is. After you have done that, then open your little mediaplayer and go to the section (usually "options") and find formats. When you are in the correct place, you will notice that you have the option of selecting (i.e. checking) boxes for the different extensions.

See if that is your problem.
