How do I exit MS DOS MODE?

Thanks!

You already said it! Type EXIT at the C:\ prompt which will return you to Windows and you can shut down the way you usually do. OR - you can just turn your system off at the C:\ prompt with the on-off switch on your computer. Easy, eh!

It really depends on how you got to MS-DOS mode. If you reboot to MS-DOS mode using the shutdown option from within Windows, exit will reboot the computer and bring you back to Windows (at least, it's done so for all the versions of Windows 95 I've used, and Windows 98; I never checked Windows 98 SE to make sure this was this case, but I would think it would be). However, if you go to MS-DOS from the "F8" screen while booting the computer, exit does not work.

"exit" will work from an MS-DOS window but from MS-DOS MODE you would either power off or type WIN to restart Windows. In MS-DOS Mode, exit will take you nowhere.

David,

Seems we were both right - appreciate your clarification. Either way, I gave an alternative so I would imagine the original writer is home safe by now.

I've been using the type "exit" to get out of DOS and go to Windows from the ShutDown menu for years. Thanks for the verification.
