Optiplex 320 supports these memory modules: 533- or 667-MHz DDR2 non-ECC SDRAM of 256-MB, 512-MB, or 1-GB capacity in two slots. So 2-GB isn't supported. And using only 1 stick means you lose all the advantages of DDR2 RAM, which requires a matched pair.

supports these memory modules: 533-MHz and 667-MHz ECC and non-ECC DDR2 SDRAM of 512 MB, 1 GB, or 2 GB capacity in four slots. 3x1-GB doesn't have the advantages of DDR2. But if you use 2x1-GB plus 2x512-MB you still have 3-GB total and now with full DDR2 support.
Not ALL Ram works with ALL computers. HIGH Density Ram DOES NOT WORK with Dell or INTEL based motherboards.Crucial WILL NOT RMA or refund or warranty Ram unless it is SPECIFICALLY Stated on their Ram Advisor or Site to be compatible. Not all CRUCIAL DDR2 Ram Modules are compatible.
How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found
here.
The ATI GPU on the motherboard STEALS From System Ram.
Precision WorkStation 390 uses ECC Ram and MUST BE INSTALLED IN PAIRS when using more than 1 stick of ram.
