Memory specs for XPS 8300?

I have 6gb of memory in my XPS 8300, as follows:

2 x 1gb sticks

2 x 2gb sticks

I'd like to add more memory. What are the specs of the memory that is compatible with this motherboard?

Also, can I buy 2 x 4gb sticks to replace the 1gb sticks to yield 12gb as follows:

2 x 2gb sticks

2 x 4gb sticks

12 Elder

Max RAM appears to be 16GB using 4x4GB modules such as you can see here.

Keep in mind that all RAM will run at the speed of the slowest modules installed, so depending on the price difference, you may not want to buy RAM that's faster than what you have now, unless you plan to replace all of it. And Crucial guarantees it will work or they take it back.

Possible memory configurations: 3 GB, 4 GB, 6 GB, 8 GB, 12 GB, and 16 GB

I like crucial's site as you say if it don't work they will take it back that's good customer service!! as well as they will also tell you if your wasting your money or not if you upgrade. I wanted to go from 1600 MHz to 1866 mhz the crucial rep told me I was wasting my money and not to bother doing the upgrade!!
