Memory upgrade question

Hi, new dell owner here. Please be nice

I did a search on memory upgrade, but didn't see any post that reflects my problem.

I got a 256mb DDR333 ram from best buy. The brand name is SpecTek. I think they are make by Crucial because the manufatuer MIR goes to Crucial.

Anyways, after I put the ram in, it was fine. I see 512mb total (including my origianl 256). So I thought it was fine.

I reboot again and got into the BIOS and saw the RAM speed is only at 266. What is the problem?

The 256ram that came with my PC should be a 333 because it's stated on my packing slip.

thanks for any input.

Order your RAM directly from WWW.CRUCIAL.COM.  Free shipping. Lifetime warranty.  $ back if you're not happy with the module.

Remove the new RAM.  Do you see 333 with the original RAM?

mdrollas.

Had the same problem, purchased so-called DDR333 RAM module for a D/4550 and it also ran at 266, I could not find the answer why or nor could the manufacturer, so RMA it and then purchased a 512mb,RAM DDR333 module from Crucial and have had no problems since.

Thanks for the reply!

I am surprised that Dell's MB is so picky on RAM. I'll try it out! thanks!

SpecTek is owned by Micron, as is Crucial.

You don't say which Dell you have.  Is it a 2350?  If so, it only runs at 266.

I have a Dimension 2400 Desktop with 256 of RAM and want to upgrade to at least 512 or maybe 1 Gig.  A)  Should I buy thru Dell or Crucial?  B) Any thoughts on RAM speed?  C) Should I buy a 512 module or just get a gig for a total of 1280?

Thanks

Crucial.

Their memory is guaranteed to work in the D-2400, has a lifetime warranty and free S&H on orders over $40.00.
