Microsoft Word Document Recovery
Hello!
I found a document I wrote last night and pulled it up on Microsoft Works/History. When it popped up for me, on the left side of the screen "Document Recovery" was noted about this paper. What is up with that? I did loose a lot of documents recently and they came up on that screen, but now they are recovered and I figured out how to save that file and even to print for extra protection. Should I be saving all my documents on a floppy for extra protection? Would loosing documents be the reason that my computer wouldn't show icons for me to boot up the system? I have had an awful time lately, but thru the phone to DELL they helped me out wonderfully! Thanks!

This means that Word thinks you ended the program improperly (i.e. powered off) without exiting.
Yes, you should backup Word documents.
1) In Word, go to Tools, Options, Save and check Always Create Backup Copy and check Save AutoRecovery Information and change it to 5 minutes. When you open an existing file, this will backup the previous version, which is helpful if you open a file, change it, and meant to save it under a new name but forget to. The AutoRecovery prevents a disaster by storing the document during the session every 5 minutes.
2) All your documents should be going into My Documents. This should be backed up to floppy, zipdrive, CD, or another hard drive as often as you feel necessary for recovery. In other words, if you don't mind losing a month of work, backup monthly. If you want only a week of jeopardy, backup weekly...
I use a program called QuikSync 3 that keeps as many versions of every thing you want to backup as you want, I keep 5 versions of everything and store them on another hard drive in the computer.
I use Drive Image to backup the hard drive to a separate computer.
And yes, I've lost things too...
