I am working on a Dimension 8300 and plugged in the back. It worked once then never again. I purchased a new cabe as directed by tech support(there support) in the event something happened there. I brought my cards to the store to make sure they were not good but they worked. When plugged into any other brand computer it works but my friend and I both have Dells and neither one of them will work.
My only other idea is to delete the device from device manager and try reinstalling the drivers. There are so many other variables it's nearly impossible to tell what's going on.
Sorry, this is not something that other forum members are likely to have. Dell make their USB ports to the same industry standard as everyone else, so I'd be surprised if this was a Dell issue.
There have been several posts, in the past - mostly in the Windows XP software section about getting Embroidery machine programs and interfaces to work. I don't have any answer but I agree it's not just a Dell hardware issue.
On several of the other posts, the users were not using Windows XP specific programs and that may have been part of the problem (the programs they were using were designed originally for older Windows Operating systems.
One thing to try, if this device/software is also compatible with older Windows Operating Systems, is to run in a "compatibility mode" (e.g. for Win98) and see if that helps.
Fortunately my wife has an older Baby Lock Espree Embroidery machine that only uses cards or a hand scanner - no computer interface to worry with.
I googled on this briefly, just because I was trying to figure out what the product does. I found a forum where someone who bought it said "Be forewarned, however, there are all sorts of driver issues if you have Microsoft's Internet Explorer 6.0 with Service Pack 2. You may need to spend a while on the phone and have someone walk you through installing the correct drivers." So this may be your issue, too. The forum thread in question was here:

The manufacturer for Magic Box will no longer supply this product. Technical support for the Magic Box is no longer available. Please refer to your product manual or consult a local computer technician for technical assistance. If you uninstall or try to reinstall your Magic Box, it will no longer work as activation codes can no longer be generated. This is not a Dell Product.
Magic Box activation codes are no longer supported by the manufacturer.
They are no longer able to create new activation codes. If you uninstall or re-install your Magic Box, you will not be able to use it as activation codes can no longer be generated.
Magic Box was designed for use with older windows and will not work with the newest technology available. To use your Magic Box, you should maintain a 32 bit computer system. The Magic Box will not work on the 64 bit operating systems. If you have unistalled it you are done. Its never going to work Ever again.
Is there a box that I can use with my cards?
It has been suggested that the following box will work. However, DELL has not used this box and Does not support any of these devices.. Dell cannot take responsibility for this box working with your cards, so be sure to check with the company. DELL cannot give support for this box.

Hi Rebee
Concerning your Mini Magic Box Plus.
I saw this query and was interested in finding out if you managed to get it working on your Dell Computer.
I realize it was a long time ago.
I have been having the same problem.
Regard
Carleen
