The chipset drivers did not work for me. Thanks to a wonderful DELL support person (John Paul) he was able to get the file called infinst_autol.zip from Intel's web site. Try using this if the chipset drivers do not work.
The infinst_autol.zip worked for me. I was attempting to install on xp, and the setup.exe failed to install this driver. However, From device manager, I was able to update the drivers by pointing windows to the inifinst_autol\All directory.
This worked for me. I had installed a "newer" version, and nothing would work. So, I installed this one. I got the "You already have a newer version, are you sure?" message. I said yes because I had tried everything else I could think of and VIOLA!
Thought I'd let others know.
My machine is an XPS L702X with the 2nd generation i7 and the the series 6 chipset if that ever helps anyone.

Go to support.dell.com, Drivers and Downloads, enter your Service Tag (or select your model), and install all the "chipset" drivers.
It might be possible to try this:

This is your modem driver, so reinstall the modem from the CD that came with your computer.

try to download from the following link. If it doesn't help go through your system specifications like windows7 or xp,32 bit or 64 and the like.
