Mixing Different Types of Memory ???
Hi DELL Geeks,
For the past 25+ years, I have always purchased DELL laptops, desktops, printers, servers, switches, etc. My DELL devices and equipment have always ran as promised for years with no problems at all. So I never had to open up any the equipment.
But now I have just stumbled into a situation where I will probably be doing so. We have an older Dell Vostro 220 Desktop that was ordered with only 2 sticks of (DDR2) 3GB memory. We need to beef it up a little with some more RAM. One of my technicians tells me that we can go ahead and purchase 2 more sticks of (DDR3)memory and it will run with the sticks of (DDR2)memory already in place. I mentioned to him that I did not think that mixing up DDR2 and DDR3 RAM memory would work well together. He then stated to go ahead and pull out ALL the existing DDR2 sticks AND put in all DDR3 memory sticks. I am really perplexed and in a quandry about this situation.... ANY ideas, suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated. TIA, amorg7777 :emotion-42:
